Privacy Policy
Draft — pending legal review
What we collect
- Your name, email address and a one-way hash of your password (never the password itself).
- The financial records you choose to enter or import: accounts, starting balances, transactions, categories, budgets, savings goals, bills, loans, cards, insurance, investments, assets, business records and notes.
- Documents you choose to upload (receipts, bills, statements, policy papers). They are encrypted before they are stored and are never placed where the public website can serve them.
- If you use Family: the groups you create or join, the email addresses you invite, the household expenses and goals recorded in a group, and which of your items you share.
- Your preferences (theme, date format, time zone, notification settings).
- Basic security information: when, and from which IP address and browser, you signed in, plus a log of security-relevant actions such as password changes and data exports. This log holds record ids and action names only — never amounts, descriptions or passwords.
What stays on your device
- If you install SilentFinance or use it in a browser, it keeps the app's own files, the offline page and the calculators on your device so they load quickly and work offline. Your financial records, documents and signed-in pages are never stored there.
- A few settings that only affect this browser, such as whether the sidebar is collapsed.
What we never collect
- Bank or net-banking passwords, card numbers, CVVs, PINs or OTPs. SilentFinance is not connected to any bank.
- Advertising or tracking cookies. We use one essential cookie to keep you signed in, and one to remember your light or dark theme.
How we use it
- To show you your own financial picture: balances, budgets, goals, reports and insights calculated from your records.
- To send the account emails you need: email confirmation, password reset and family invitation links — and, only if you switch them on, reminder summaries and account-activity alerts.
- To keep the service secure: rate limits, sign-in history and abuse prevention.
We do not sell, rent or share your financial information, and we do not use it for advertising.
Outside services
- Mutual fund prices (optional): if you link a fund to its AMFI scheme and ask for an update, our server downloads the public NAV list published by the Association of Mutual Funds in India. Nothing about you or your holdings is sent with that request.
- Email, when it's set up: our email provider receives the address and message of the emails described above.
- SilentFinance is not connected to any bank or broker.
Who can see it
You — and, if you join a family group, its members see only what you explicitly share with that group (one account, budget or goal at a time, read-only) plus the group's household records. Your documents and everything you don't share stay private to you. Every request is checked on our server against your account and your group role. Our team does not browse customer records; support access happens only when you ask for help, and only as far as needed.
Your choices
- Download everything we hold about you, any time, from Settings → Data & privacy.
- Stop sharing an item, or leave a family group, at any time.
- Delete your account: this permanently removes your profile, all of your financial records and your uploaded documents. Groups you own pass to another member, or are deleted if you were the only one.
Security
Connections are encrypted (HTTPS). Passwords are stored with a memory-hard hash (scrypt). Session cookies are HTTP-only and hold only a random token. Other sites can't embed our pages, and our Content Security Policy blocks untrusted scripts.
Retention
Your records stay until you delete them or your account. Backups that may contain deleted data are kept for a limited time and then overwritten.
